Voice Training Techniques For Us All

By Ali Carter

If you want to improve your work and social situations, you might want to look at strengthening one of the most important tools you have, the voice. If used correctly it can influence many things, and one way to do this is learning a few voice training techniques. While many believe only singers and actors train their voice, there are many businesses that actually focus their training on businessmen and others who may not use their voice to sing or act, but it is still their essential tool for their work.

By using techniques that normally only actors or singers would try, many businessmen and women are improving their speaking voice and confidence by turning to voice coaching. These help improve communication skills allowing them to express themselves clearly in business meetings and also works on the correction of diction and breathing.

Just like any other muscle, the vocal chords, small thin muscles that vibrate when air passes through them, need to be kept in good shape. The vibrations can be slow or speedy, so if they are well exercised, these shifts become easier. Just like if you were going for a run and you stretch your muscles beforehand, the voice needs to be warmed up.

The techniques used to exercise the voice are many, as so much can effect it. First and foremost it is good to get to know a few breathing exercises that work for you. Being able to control your breathing is essential, whether you are singing the national anthem, or delivering the key note address at a conference. Knowing how to use your diaphragm correctly will make breathing easier, and your voice stronger.

A bad posture can mean the voice weaker as your speech is effected by the body. It is not just the muscles that control speech directly that need to be exercised, so many other physical exercises can help strengthen the voice.

Once you have control of your body - your engine - you can shift focus to the mouth, lips and tongue. Keeping them in good shape, and knowing how to use them correctly to make the right sounds is very important.

Whether it be from a book, audio book, a training video or an online class, there are so many excellent and beneficial voice training techniques available for you to master the muscle many of us use the most.
