By Pamela C Smith

Have you been wondering about how to sing harmony? The guidelines given in this article will help you on how to sing harmony. Singing is by no means an easy skills to master but harmonizing can be even more difficult. Synchronizing with another singer is certainly no easy task. Mistakes made while harmonizing can be heard distinctly so it would be impossible to hide them. Here are a few exercises that will get you started.

Harmonizing is by far one of the most rewarding styles of singing. When you harmonize your voice with that of another singer the cumulative effect is a very rich tone. But it is certainly not easy as mentioned earlier because your singing will have to blend with that of another person. Begin by learning to recognize harmony. A good way to do this is by listening to a favorite song. You have to pay attention to the melody and the instruments.

Try to pick out the instruments that are being played in harmony with the melody. This will not be easy at first because instruments that are blended with the melody seem to be in the background.

The next step after you recognize the harmony is to try it yourself by matching your voice with the instruments. This will not be an easy task in the beginning. To make things easy try harmonizing with the help of a piano.

To begin with try harmonizing your voice with a note being played on the piano. It may take you a few rounds to get it right. If you want to learn about the different notes that work in harmony this is a fantastic exercise to do so.

After one move to another note. A good way would be to record yourself. Listen to your recordings. Listening to yourself will help you to understand how to sing harmony, pick a good note to harmonize and to maintain correct pitch.

This technique is also useful to learn about the different moods created by the different harmonies.

Once you are comfortable with harmonizing, pick a melody from your favorite song and start by singing two or three notes above and below the melody, just slide up and down the notes till you find the harmony and also hear for the different moods created by the different harmonies.

As a last step, put everything you have learnt to practice and harmonize with another singer as you record yourselves.

Even though singing harmony required a lot of patience and effort it is well worth it when you hear yourself harmonizing with another gifted singer.
