Concerts Have Become A Visual Experience As Well

By Danny Zito

In simple words, a concert can be described as a live performance, generally by a musician, in the presence of an audience. Even though the definition may sound simple, but a lot of planning and effort goes into the successful completion of such concerts. If the show is performed by a single musician, it is referred to as a recital. When a group of musician perform together, they are referred to as an orchestra or choir. In the last few decades, live shows by a variety of music bands have become a new trend of sorts.

These events are very popular mainly because of the fact that they can be organized almost anywhere. There are no clearly defined rules for the venue size, capacity or the location. They can also be organized very conveniently in a house or at a local night club.

They are mostly held in special auditoriums, entertainment centres and concert halls. Whenever it is expected that the crowd coming in would be large in numbers, the event is held in a stadium or a large park. Those shows, which are specially held in such close area are called as arena concert.

Wherever the concert may be held, the artist always performs on some kind of a stage. In ancient times, when tapes and records had not been invented, these kinds of events were the only means of communication between the artist and the audience.

The style and the nature of the concert normally changes as per the music genre and the artists performing. In case of a classical concert, featuring an opera, jazz or blues music, the setting would be more formal. In case of a country music show, the setting would be more casual and it may perhaps be held in a park.

Recently, a relatively new genre of music known as rock music has become immensely popular among people of various groups. It is so popular that their patrons now feel that they are part of a cult. In these concerts, the attendees go with suitable hairstyle, clothed and different kind of accessories.

Those events which involve a variety of artists, and normally last for a few days, are popularly called festivals. Unlike shows with single artists, which remain focused on one genre, festivals are famous for covering a broad variety of music and art forms. A lot of these festivals are now an annual event.

In order to create and organize an exciting and a memorable experience for the attendees, the performing artists generally include a lot of entertaining elements in their shows. These may include stage lighting; pre recorded video clips, image magnification screens, digital displays etc.

They may also add some artefacts, art works or similar items on the stage. They also try to create some special effects with the help of smoke fog and laser show. One of the most inseparable parts of these kinds of events are the pyrotechnics.

In the olden times, concerts were mostly the primary source of earning for the musicians. These days, concerts are both paid and free. Concerts are also organized for a certain cause or for the benefit of someone. Some part of revenue from these shows goes to a charitable organization.
